Jones, a cellist in the school's orchestra, and the winner of the Gatorade Iowa track and field athlete of the year won her an award called the Gatorade Iowa Athlete Award at the close of high school. Jones, when she went to college, was recognized as a top hurdler. Jones won the 100-meter challenge in 2002 at the NCAA Track & Field Championship. She also was part of the winning team of 100-meter relay. Jones is the NCAA Champion indoor hurdler in both 2003 and 2014. Jones completed her studies in 2005, began to train hard for track.
